Submit an Individual Activity

At the Virginia Nurses Association, our priority is to provide high-quality lifelong learning opportunities for nurses. VNA is accredited as an Approver of Nursing Continuing Professional Development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC’s) Commission on Accreditation. Through this accreditation, we review and approve educational programs of all sizes, supporting organizations across Virginia and beyond in delivering excellence in nursing education.

If your educational activity meets the definition of nursing continuing professional development (NCPD), it may be approved to award nursing contact hours. The ANCC defines NCPD as “those learning activities intended to build upon the educational and experiential bases of the professional registered nurse for the enhancement of practice, education, administration, research, or theory development, to improve the health of the public and RNs’ pursuit of their professional career goals.” (ANCC, 2025)

Individual educational activities must be designed to address a gap in knowledge, skills, and/or practice for a specific target audience. All ANCC educational design processes for nursing continuing professional development activities must be addressed.

In order to submit an activity application, the planning committee must include a nurse planner. The nurse planner is a registered nurse who holds a current, unrestricted nursing license, and a baccalaureate degree or higher in nursing (or international equivalent) who is actively involved in all aspects of planning, implementation, and evaluation of each NCPD activity. The nurse planner is responsible for ensuring that appropriate educational design principles are used and that processes are consistent with the requirements of the ANCC NCPD Accreditation Program. VNA will communicate directly with the nurse planner in regard to all elements of your application. (ANCC, 2025)

  • Individual Activity Application FAQs can be found here.

This new process was implemented on 1/12/2026.

Step1.

Complete the Eligibility Assessment Form.

Step 2.

Complete the current Individual Activity Application.

Step 3.

Submit your application and all required documentation with payment via the online submission portal. Once your application and payment are received, VNA's nurse peer review team will conduct a thorough review of the application and provide feedback. Once you successfully satisfy any requests for revisions, your activity will be approved.

We request that applications and payment be submitted at least 8 weeks prior to the start of your activity to ensure ample time for review and revisions.

Please see our chart of fees to calculate your application fee. Application fees are for the review of the individual activity and are non-refundable once the application has been submitted.

For payment only: You will need to round up if your number of contact hours is not a whole number. For example, to calculate the fees for 3.25 hours, you would round up to 4 hours.

Upon completion of your individual activity, we ask that you submit a Summative Evaluation by December 31st. You can access that evaluation here.
