VNA President's Message

Hello, I'm Kathy Baker. I currently serve as the Chief Nursing Officer at UVA Medical Center. With over 20 years of experience in nursing leadership, I have the privilege of working at UVA Health where I'm part of many initiatives aimed at strengthening the nursing workforce and enhancing patient safety. My research focuses on work environments, patient safety, and nurse staffing, and I've published multiple articles on these important topics.

At UVA, I'm dedicated to advancing innovative nursing care models and supporting the recruitment, retention, and mentorship of outstanding nurses. I also participate in various national and state workgroups to elevate the nursing profession, including my current role with the Virginia Nurses Foundation and the National Emergency Nurses Association. I'm particularly proud to serve as this year's president of the Virginia Nurses Association.

The Virginia Nurses Association has a place for everyone. Whether you're a new staff nurse, a seasoned professional, a public health nurse, an academician or student, the Virginia Nurses Association is a place where your voice can be heard and we can collectively elevate the profession of nursing.
