Nurses make up the largest group of healthcare providers in the state, so it’s essential that we have a voice in policy making and engage in the political process. The perceived time needed to engage in policy involvement or development outside of daily “nursing work” as well as the resources to develop skills in policy participation has often hampered nurses from becoming involved in advocacy. Yet, when it comes to advocating on behalf of nurses, VNA makes advocacy easy. We are the only organization speaking for the 140,000+ nurses throughout Virginia. Our lobbyists, leadership, and members work passionately to educate our legislators and state policymakers on issues crucial to the advancement of the nursing profession. We update our members weekly during our legislative calls and send legislative e-blasts with breaking news during the legislative session.

January 20: Free, In-Person Nursing Lobby Day at the State Capitol with VNA Leaders & Lobbyists

Kick off 2026 with Us & Watch the Virginia Legislature in Session!

VNA's Lobby Day is a day to advocate for nurses and the nursing profession at the General Assembly! We will be meeting about 2026 legislation, current issues impacting the nursing profession, and much more. You’ll also potentially have the opportunity to sit in on a virtual healthcare committee meeting and observe the legislature in session. All nurses are welcome to join us - you do not have to be a VNA member to attend. Our session will include an overview of our policy platform, our bill progress, tools for reaching legislators, and talking points to share with them about our current legislation.

Before the meeting, we will encourage all attendees to contact one or both of their legislators to set up an individual meeting and we will provide the materials about our policy platform to leave behind and tips for having successful meetings.
