About VNA's Advocacy EffortsVNA is dedicated to making workplaces safer and healthier for everyone. We have made significant strides in reducing workplace violence by supporting legislation that removes location restrictions on threats against healthcare providers and mandates continuous security presence in hospital emergency departments. Recent victories also include a newly passed three-year transition to practice period for APRNs and mandated surgical smoke evacuation. VNA remains committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, enhancing nurse staffing, and ensuring equitable access to care. Together, we are driving impactful changes and creating safer, more equitable workplaces. When nurses speak, leaders listen! Thanks to the tireless advocacy of the Virginia Nurses Association and our dedicated members, major victories were secured during the 2025 Virginia General Assembly session—including passage of groundbreaking legislation to address workplace violence, expand nursing education opportunities, and secure independent practice authority for certified midwives. We fought for smarter investments in the nursing workforce, secured critical tuition assistance, and protected hard-won advances in equitable care. These wins didn’t happen by chance—they happened because VNA members showed up, spoke out, and led the charge. If your passionate about advancing nursing, now is the time to join the movement. #StandWithUs Legislative SummitJoin us to examine and learn more about critical policy issues facing nursing and healthcare. |
