The use of artificial intelligence [AI] is increasing in various sectors of our daily lives, including healthcare. There is controversy surrounding the impact that AI is making, and many people distrust AI for a variety of reasons. This program will provide learners with a brief historical perspective of AI and definitions of what AI is and is not. A positive example of the benefits of AI in research using an AI driven device to treat gait problems in people with Parkinson’s disease will be presented. The use of AI in the educational setting is also controversial. Using AI as a teaching tool in nursing education will be explored. The desired state is that learners will have a better understanding of AI and how they can use it to improve patient and nursing student outcomes.
