  • Thank you for your interest in applying for Approved Provider status through Virginia Nurses Association. Organizations interested in applying to become an Approved Provider must complete the eligibility verification process and meet all eligibility requirements.

    This document must be completed at least 90 days prior to the application submission deadline [see VNA site for application cycles]. 

    This form should be completed by an individual with the authority and knowledge to attest to the eligibility of applicant organization to apply for Approved Provider status. 

    After completion of this form, you will receive a message if you are eligible to apply.

    The Virginia Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

  • To be eligible to apply for Approved Provider status, an organization must:

  • 1) The Approved Provider must have a clearly defined ‘provider unit’ or department administratively and operationally responsible for continuing nursing education. An Approved Provider Unit (APU) is defined structurally and operationally as the members of the organization who support the delivery of Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) activities.

  • 2) An Approved Provider must have at least one Nurse Planner (NP) who will serve as the Primary Nurse Planner (PNP), and be responsible for adhering to ANCC/VNA CEA accreditation criteria in the provision of continuing nursing education.

  • 3) During the past year, more than 50% of the applicant organization's target audience nurses must be within the states of Region 3 (Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and District of Columbia) AND the states contiguous to Region 3 (Kentucky, New Jersey, New York,  North Carolina, Ohio, and Tennessee).

  • 4) An Approved Provider must not meet the definition of a commercial interest:

    (a) any entity either producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing healthcare goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients or

    (b) any entity owned or controlled by an entity that produces, markets, re-sells or distributes healthcare goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients.

    Exemptions are made for nonprofit or government organizations, non-healthcare-related companies and healthcare facilities.

  • 5) An Approved Provider must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations that affect the organization’s ability to meet ANCC/VNA CEA accreditation criteria and requirements.
